wall piece

This is one piece to my wall piece that will be laser cut. Essentially, I want to create a dome effect with two hemispheres bisecting one another. The next part is figuring out how the slot and tabs will work, or whether I scrap that and rivet it somehow.

POST CARD!

here she is, my postcard!

laser cutting

I am lucky and get to experiment with the laser cutter in the Tech Dept. I learned how to use the machine. I will be cutting out acrylic earrings in the machine. Also, I will create a smaller model of my wall piece to figure out how it will work when it is in steel. SO MUCH TO DO.

These designs are based around tape worms. I have to stick with my theme, so I abstracted them into simpler and "prettier" forms.

Nose plugs

Here she is. My baby nose plugs. These are etched with a lace texture. I wanted to make a pair of fashionable protective nose plugs. They are meant to protect you from the hundreds of diseases that can make you ugly, sick, and gross. However, when you put these in your nose, they distort your nose entirely. They also look ridiculous in the nose. So it is more of a mocking idea than anything.

Smallpox Ring

The inspiration behind this piece was smallpox. Most of the deformities and diseases I come across don't really bother me. Although, when I came to smallpox I think I gagged. The texture of it is what gets me. I wanted to recreate this texture and make it the focal point. Rings are usually made pretty. You generally want to show it off to your friends. That is why I made this disease into a ring. I wanted to make it seem prettier than it is. I could not get rid of the texture though. I had to make that bumpy and goopy looking.

Elephantitis

Granted, this does not make ones body large and girthy and mammoth, however, it is a stylized representation of it. I really liked the forms I created with the tiara, and I wanted to replicate them on another part of the body. It is all of copper. I used an iridescent white powder with orange dye oxide on the inside of the pods. The outside is liver os sulfur that I dried with the heat gun to alter the colors slightly.

Tiara final.

This is my tiara project from 2011. It is based on the elephant man. I set a druzy stone in the bottom portion of it. The rest is made out of copper. I used black and brown dye oxides on the copper. Then, I placed it into a bin of ammonia and wood chips. It was buried for 48 hours.

Finished work!

These are all based on Dermoid cysts. I wanted them to be in your face and on your face. I ma happy with them. The last one is my least favorite. I don't find nearly as successful as the other two. These are made out of copper, steel and silver.
